There are following four ways one can install Kodi on Windows 10:
- Windows Installer
- Windows Store
- Chocolately (command line installer) &
- Portable version of Kodi
This is the easiest and hassle free method to install Kodi on Windows 10. Head to the download page on official Kodi website and download the app installer. You will get 3 options i.e. Run, Save and cancel. Save the file to suitable location and double click once download is complete. Click “Run” to initiate the setup. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation or make changes you desire. That’s it, the Kodi app is now installed on your Windows 10 system.
Second best method is to install Kodi on Windows 10 via Windows Store. The process is modern with minimum user inputs required during installation. Head to Windows Store and search for “Kodi”. Click the big icon and the installation will start. One of the biggest advantage of installing Kodi from Windows store is that the app will get automatic updates and you need not bother to apply updates manual. All other functions remain same.
Chocolately command line installer:
If your are traveller of uncommon paths, then installing Kodi with Chocolately is going to be interesting for you. Chocolately is a utility to install the Kodi from command line or from PowerShell.
To install Kodi simply hit following command
C: \> choco install kodi
This command will install the Kodi for you.
Portable version of Kodi:
If you need a portable version of Kodi, then it is possible using the portable installer. The benefit of using the portable version is that you can use multiple versions of Kodi on single machine.
Download the required version of Kodi. Initiate installation by double clicking the Kodi.exe file. Change the location of the installation otherwise you will encounter error message “ERROR: Unable to create application. Exiting.” For portable version to work it is necessary to keep installation location as standard user not the admin controlled. It is better to install the portable version on a USB storage drive or HDD. After installing the Kodi, DO NOT RUN the app immediately. Go to installation directory, right click the Kodi.exe file and create a shortcut to the desktop. Right click the newly created shortcut and click properties. Go to the box named Target and add the switch -p after kodi.exe i.e. P:\Kodi\kodi.exe -p and save.
That’s all, the portable version of Kodi is now installed for you. Make sure to keep the installation directory same if upgrading the app.
